Note to adopters
by Diane Morgan
Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in rescue. We don't get the
elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved
dog. We get the leftovers. Dogs that other people have incompetently bred,
inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated.
Most Rescue dogs have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company. They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.
But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We never give up on a dog. We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Our dogs are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion.
So please, please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit. For Rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. I can promise you this -- a rescue dog will make you a better person.

Our goal is to find loving and forever homes for every rescued Cocker Spaniel. To that end we have developed an adoption application and process to help us identify the best homes for these wonderful dogs. Most volunteers have their own Cocker Kids and are familiar with situations and environments in which Cocker Spaniels do best. Furthermore, our foster parents have had our adoptable Cocker Kids in their homes and have learned something about their personality. We do our best to match the dog's personality and behaviors with the new family's lifestyle and environment. We do this, again, to protect the dogs and make sure the dog and the family can live together forever.
Here's the information you will need to apply to adopt one of our wonderful furkids.

1. You need to read the rules for consideration for adoption: Consideration for Adoption
2. You need to read and agree to the Adoption Contract: Adoption Contract
3. You need to complete an application and mail or fax toll free (1 888 726 6677) it to Cocker Rescue
4. After we get the application, we may request a vet reference or personal references and we might require a home visit/consultation. We usually do all that pretty quickly, however be patient as all our volunteers usually have full time jobs and families etc. If everything's o.k. then the hard part starts...you have to pick which one of our beautiful Cocker Kids to take home!!!
Start by looking at our pictures and reading our stories. If you want to know more about a particular furkid, or if you want to visit one, leave a message on the Cocker Rescue answering machine at 972-994-1133 (Toll Free) or e-mail us at DFWCSR@tx.rr.com. We'll get you in touch with the foster parent and set up a meeting from there.
About once a month we all meet at a local pet store for a "Meet & Greet" and you can see many of the kids there too!

HOW MUCH?... Cocker Rescue takes all the dogs to get shots, spayed or neutered, and tested for heartworms before they can be adopted. Also, if they're sick we get them medicine. That costs money and we need help paying for it. So, we ask our new adopters for a minimum tax-deductible donation of $200 ($250 for puppies under 6 months) to our Cocker Family Fund when you adopt a Cocker Kid. That helps us continue rescuing more beautiful Cocker Spaniels!
PLEASE NOTE: We are volunteers that do rescue as time permits. Please allow 48 hours to process your application and to get a response. Your response will be sent either via email or a phone call, but a response will be sent to you. If you don't hear from us in 48 hours, contact us at DFWCSR@comcast.net. We will then check on the status of your application.
